My name is Kai. I’m a new paralegal and longtime law and policy nerd. I have a BA in Political Science with specializations in Public Policy and International Politics. As of May 2026, I received a Paralegal Studies certificate. I’ve worked in bankruptcy, real estate, local government, and criminal defense.
Legally Strange covers changes in laws, courts, public policy, Hawai’i issues, access to justice, and federal policy — from a paralegal who probably reads too many court documents. I started this because legal news is rarely written for the people most affected by it, and because what happens in Hawaiʻi courts and legislatures matters just as much as anything coming out of Washington, even if Washington hasn’t figured that out yet. The law touches everyday life in ways that don’t always make headlines — from Hawaiian home lease rights to climate policy to tenant protections — and those stories deserve more than a press release rewrite and a prayer. Legally Strange exists to make the law more readable for residents, advocates, and anyone tired of legal commentary that uses the word “hereinafter.”
The law can get weird, so make sure you’ve buckled up for the (sometimes) wild ride. We’re going to talk about court cases, public policy, laws, and more! You’ll get a peek behind the curtain into the legal field. Including all the confusion and (mild) panic that comes with being an early-career professional working in the field I love.
